STRUCTURE: installation

Once the house was propped up with Acros and needles, installing the beams seemed relatively straightforward. Obviously having someone else install them makes this easier to say. I had actually started back at work by the time the structural work was being undertaken and I must admit it was rather nice arriving home and just finding that stuff had been done. Arriving back to be met with a pair of red oxide girders was a particularly good moment. Together with the drains, the beams had seemed like a real obstacle in this project. Once they were in I felt that the worst was over.

beam October 2008: The beams meet at a pair of padstones in the middle. Padstones are just concrete blocks that transfer the weight evenly along a section of wall.
